Dissent
Disrupt Desert was the first collaborative exhibition by Jamin,
Paicey & Empire, and led to the founding of the Die Laughing
Collective, September 2004. The work is 12m x 2.4m and covered
the entire back wall of the Entrepot Gallery in Sullivan's
Cove, Hobart. The exhibition was timed to co-incide with the Australian
Federal Election of that year.
On
the opening night local band, "The Scandal", played a set
of politically charged punk/hardcore music at a volume level that shocked
many of the 200 or so people who turned up to the opening.
Dissent
Disrupt Desert was lit day and night, and could be seen from a long
way off due to the gallery's large glass frontage. The opening and the
piece itself, with it's chaotic and scintillating energy, left a strong
impression on many people.
